A Tolkien Blog Party

I'm back for day two! Did you miss me? ;)

Today we have a tag Hamlette @ The Edge Of The Precipice created for her ninth annual Tolkien week celebration! Be sure to check out her blog to join in and enter the giveaway.

Aragorn: Favorite Tolkien hero/heroine

I'm going to have to go with two, Aragorn and Sam. The quest would have failed if any of the fellowship had turned back, but if these two had turned back, the quest would have failed miserably. Aragorn has the heart of a king and Sam has the heart of a gardener—both very important things to possess—but they both have strength and courage and the heart of a servant, and that is worth far more than all the gold in Erebor. (Gandalf needs an honorable mention as well, for putting up with Middle-earth for all those years.)

Boromir: Favorite Tolkien character arc

Faramir went from being so starved for love that he nearly got himself killed to be worthy of love to learning how to give the love he craved to others. Tolkien wrote Faramir as though he understood what it was like to crave love. He wrote it as though Faramir's story was his soul story. Faramir's arc is both heartbreaking and beautiful.

Frodo: Favorite song or poem by Tolkien

The song the companions sing in chapter three of The Fellowship of The Ring. It begins "Upon the hearth the fire is red". It perfectly captures the beauty of adventure, and Pippin's song in the films adds a splash of bittersweetness to it!

Gandalf: Favorite wise Tolkien quotation

My favorite quote is said by Sam, actually. "I know we are going to take a long road, into darkness; but I know I can't turn back. It isn't to see Elves now, nor dragons, nor mountains, that I want—I don't rightly know what I want: but I have something to do before the end, and it lies ahead, not in the Shire. I must see it through, sir, if you understand me."

Gimli: A Middle-earth location you'd like to visit

Hobbiton, Rohan, Gondor, Mirkwood, the mountains, Laketown, Rivendell. Does Middle-earth count?

Legolas: Favorite Middle-earth Weapon

I think I'd like to wield a staff, but not a wizard's staff. Something more like a quarterstaff. Other than that, bows are my favorite.

Merry: Favorite way to celebrate Tolkien's stories

Sipping hot chocolate while reading the books!

Pippin: Favorite funny Tolkien quotation

I don't think I have an answer for this one. I can't remember any.

Samwise: A Middle-earth food you'd like to try

Lembas, I suppose. I've never really thought about it before. Not cram, that's for sure.

And now it's your turn!

Which Tolkien arc is your favorite? What's your favorite Tolkien quote? Are you participating in Hamlette's blog party?

Comments

  1. 1 - Aragorn is great. Sam is great too, he have the hardest time, I think, aside from Frodo.
2- I have to reconsider Faramir.
3- not quite a fan of the music in the movies
    4- Good quote
5- So everywhere then? The only one I seem to know is Rivendell but I thinking anywhere the hobbits live is way better than other places.
6- A staff? Not magical, just a staff then? I guess it's the one wielding the staff that creates the magic, right?
7 - I will have to try that.
8-9 -Not sure what a lembas is, I haven't read the book yet.

    Have a lovely day.
